I recently found an album of Elvis Presley's last concerts in 1977, which was released on CBS records originally meant to promote his concert touring but turned out to be a memorial as he died that summer. It still had it's original color program insert inside with pages and pages of large color photos. Got it for a dollar at a flea market. The most interesting song on the 2 album set was his version of the Pointer Sister's song, Fairytale, which was a hit for them in 1974, which Elvis describes as 'the story of my life'. ("I've been lost in a dream/pretending that you cared/but now I've opened up my eyes/ and found it's all been just a great big fairytale")...I had long forgotten the Pointer Sisters hit, though it is really cool and discordant which I like in jazz and the song is strangely country jazz. it is one of those songs from the 1970s you never hear anymore. The Pointer Sisters were brilliant this way-always innovative . June Pointer died last year from lung cancer, at 52, and the two other sisters, Anita and Ruth, continue to perform. Bonnie Pointer left the group in the late 70's and missed their most sucessful period in the early 80's..

My sister Lynda and I attended his concert with my father in June or 1976. I was 12, and Lynda was 9. It was a birthday present from my mother. He performed at the Providence Civic Ctr (now the "Dunkin Donuts" Ctr which I refuse to call it). In spite of the fact that he was clearly not his best - he was not in very good shape, it was still a thrill we'll never forget. I'd love to see that program etc sometime. My guess is it is simliar to what we got from the concert.
It was amazing he was able to perform at all that last summer of 1977, probably 1976 he was also ill. I don't think a lot of people realize it wasn't weight gain from eating that caused the bloating look but that his intestines has basically shut down (from extreme drug abuse) and he could not get waste out of his body-which must have been horrible to experience.
